"Rosebowl"
My Dad . . . Don Feick was a champion plowman at the International level. He began plowing at the age of thirteen and every match he was in, he brought home prizes . . . silver trays, hostess chairs, dress shoes and this . . . the silver rose bowl.
The Toronto Star Weekly donated the prize and if you look close you can read some of the engraving peeking through the foliage.
We couldn't afford to fill it with roses very often because it took 3 dozen long stemmed American Beauties to make a nice show so for each wedding or a big anniversary we treated ourselves. It sat in the place of honour on the round oak table with the brass claw and glass ball feet in the bay window of mom and dad's living room. This is a painting I keep in my heart . . . a memory of home.
